    In meningitis it is usually a very severe headache associated with fever and neck rigidity.
    In a brain inflammation (what you call encephalitis) it is again a generalised severe headache associated with fever .

    Both conditions may be associated with fits., and loss of
    consciousness.

    In both you may get atypical symptoms.

    If it comes out of the blue (eg not caused by drinking too much alcohol or caffeine) then it’s a good idea to see a doctor.
