Natural wellness centers have been popping up all around the US. Often offering acupuncture, massage, and ancient practices of health care. Good Life Wellness in Historic Savage Mill, Maryland, is a place dedicated to opening the minds of Americans to illness prevention. “Many people believe that western medicine is the only way, but massage, acupuncture, and wholistic medicine, are ancient traditions, that have healed people for centuries” stated Stephanie Lightfoot, founder of Good Life Wellness. “We believe in prevention before illness, rather than treatment after illness occurs. We deal with the root cause of illness”.
Astounding numbers of American people are suffering from bad health, depression, chronic pain, and disease. Studies have shown that illness can be prevented through simple means of self care, exercise, nutrition, and relaxation. These methods are much less expensive than the cost to treat illness. Americans want to be healthy, but often times cannot afford the out of pocket costs for wellness services. Micheal Moore pointed out in his film “Sicko”, that “in countries with health care for all, people are encouraged to receive wellness services, and often Doctors are given incentives when they have a good record of keeping patients healthy.” People are getting educated about health care in America and demanding answers to why it is so difficult to get covered for preventative methods of treatment.
There is no debate that nutrition, massage therapy, acupuncture, life coaching, meditation, and exercise are valued as credible means of self care and prevention. Doctors are consistent in blaming Stress as a major cause of a large number of illness. The money that Americans spend on health care each month could be put to use more efficiently if it expanded to cover prevention methods of treatment for citizens.
Some say pharmaceutical companies would never allow for prevention to be covered by health care since the implications would be a lower demand for pharmaceuticals. This may become a real dilemma as wellness becomes a threat to the profits of Pharmaceutical companies.
One thing that everyone agrees on, is that Prevention is the cure.
