My one roommate definitely has evidence of bed bugs in his room and has since gotten rid of his mattress and box spring. My question is how easily can the move to other rooms of the house? And if I have not noticed any evidence of them in my room, is there chances that they are still there? The rooms are about 20 feet apart separated by a large open area with clothes closets in between.

In the last case scenario, an exterminator did come through here, but it was such a hassel having to put all clothing, linens, blankets away in plastic bags. Now these bugs are here again, and it’s -10 outside. My roommate won’t do the hassel again.
How can I take care of bed bugs myself? without the hassel? I just don’t want to get bitten in my bed at night. What will at least help?

My fiance’s old roommate gave him a futon and the mattress has bed bugs. How can we get rid of them without just having to throw the mattress away?
