This kid has been suffering from some disease since and his brain function has deteriorated. Symptoms of seizures, memory loss. Not epilepsy or cancer.
He’s a teenager

I have might have to write the first chapter of a novel for an english project, and I was thinking of a plot, and 1 of the main characters is to die. He is going to die at a young age (13-16), and i don’t want him to die of cancer, so i need a genetic disease that can only be diagnosed once he is close to dying because he has no visual symptoms, and he had no disabilities as such.

My father is suffering from esophageal cancer. The cancer has affected a nerve near his throat causing him to lose his voice. Also, it has already metastasized to two other organs.

He has been treated with combined chemotherapy and radiation therapy for half a year, but his cancer shows no sign of shrinking and it’s gradually growing.

His doctor says he cannot surgically remove the cancer because the cancer is adjacent to nerves and important organs and such an operation will damage the adjacent areas.

Isn’t there any good way to cure his cancer?

For years, I’ve had a bad case of eczema that has morphed into many different kinds of bad rashes, all over my body. I’ve been put from all types of cortisone creams to many pills and different types of steroids. Is it possible to develop a disease like cancer from taking so many different medicines like it’s possible to develop cancer from things like radiation?
I also have a higher than normal risk of getting cancer… I have to biopsy everything that looks suspicious.

Wouldn’t it make more sense for the medical experts, universities, and governments to focus on one horrible disease at a time and work each on in order until the top 10 are cured. Why use a shotgun approach when it’s proven not to work. We need a Manhattan project against cancer. Spend the billions and billions of dollars on Cancer, cure it, and move on to something else. If you spread out 90 billion dollars on 90,000 diseases, you are doing nothing but paying the salary of 90,000 geeks in a lab coat to screw around on pet ideas and pis sing grant dollars away.
Focus everyone from proffessors to doctors to pharmacutical companies to volunteers for controlled tests on one disease and it will be cured very soon.
Or we can keep doing what we’ve been doing and we’ll make a lot of people rich doing absolutely nothing to benefit the general public.

There is a disease that looks like cancer, gives cancer like symptoms and gives you every reason to believe it’s cancer but it’s not. What is this disease called?
