Why do vaccines protect against a specific viral disease?

A. They don’t – only antibiotics protect against viruses.
B. They remain in the body and attack the virus.
C. They stimulate the sweat glands to eliminate the virus from the body.
D. They stimulate the immune system to recognize and kill any virally infected cells the next time you’re exposed to the disease.

My mother got diagnosed with Lyme Disease and given antibiotics for treatment but the doctor was unable to find the tick. We have found what we believe to be the tick, and it seems to be buried into her shoulder. What should we do? Try to dig it out? Put something on it? Or something else?

I am doing a big project for my biology class, and I need to know about how often a doctor prescribes antibiotics.

I have a relative who is obese and, when he wears shorts, I can see that he has a huge growth of skin that hangs. He says that the skin and everything under the surface is hard to the touch and that his doctor also tells him that it is an infection. He disagrees because he has taken antibiotics and yet he says nothing has happened. I have seen this and it just looks bad. It is located on his left thigh and just hangs just above the knee on the inside of his leg, and I’m worried for him because he is such a close relative as well as a good person to be around. Does anyone have a clue as to what it is?

I have a blister on my little toe that is red and oozing. Clearly infected. I’d like to treat it at home but I think it may warrant a doctor’s visit. Any idea what they’ll do? I’d like the antibiotics, but I’m not real fond of the idea of someone poking at it – it hurts like the dickens! Thanks!

I’ve recently been diagnosed with lyme disease, and it’s been pretty brutal. I’ve been given antibiotics to handle the infection itself, but my insurance won’t cover medication to deal with the arthritis that’s developed as a symptom. It hurts too much to walk, sit up straight, move my left arm or even turn my neck. Does anyone here have suggestions for dealing with nasty joint pain like this? I’m only 18 and start school soon.

If you’ve ever had a kidney infection, what was your first symptom? I have some dull lower back pain, but I was on antibiotics all last week for a bladder infection so I don’t I would have a kidney infection?
