Is it true that with voice recognition software that medical transcriptionists will be out of jobs? Supposed to finish registration with Everett Community College tomorrow but heard the rumor today that it would be a waste of time and money. Please help me. Would it be more sensible to switch to medical billing and coding? The more answers I get the better to figure out what to do. Thank you in advance for helping me.

I personally can not say if med transcriptionists will be out of a job, BUT, EMR is being mandated by the federal government (electronic medical records) which is usually done by the MD on a computer; with no dictation. So i would guess that long range, med trans. will be a dinosaur.
Lots of info on all three careers at the website below.
Keep in mind, speech recognitiion software will never know the difference between an ilium and an ileum.
MT, billing, and coding all 3 great careers!EMR will not do away w/ dictation. VR has been around now for years and there is still plenty of MT work. Many doctors tried VR and gave it up.
There are online schools that offer training in MT, coding, and billing. This is a wise choice because if you get your own clients you can offer all 3 services. Plus, the output of money for education is much lower.
Best wishes to you.
