I’m a firm believer that the world is over-prescribed. I think that pharmaceutical companies just want to give you a pill for everything under the sun. So with that in mind I never thought I would get acid reflux disease. I always thought that I could just live with general acid reflux, because so many people have in the past and they got along just fine.
So my question is: how can you tell if you have acid reflux? What are the symptoms and if I have it, how can I reduce it without medication.

Thanks in advance.

You need to see a doc if you think you have it for a confirmed diagnosis and a cause. You may have a hiatal hernia causing it but you would never know if you don’t see a doc. GERD is not something you can not treat as left unteated it can lead to esophogeal erosion which is serious. My dad never realized he had GERD and now has esophogeal erosion. See your doc if you think you have it.

On top of the erosion, it can also lead to esophageal cancer.

don’t worry i have it and if you have you don’t need a doctor to tell… (but i saw a doctor)

One symptom, of course, is chronic heartburn. Do you belch and bring up stomach contents? Does it burn your throat and esophagus? If so you probably have acid reflux. Check out a holistic web site if you don’t want to take meds. My holistic Dr. recommended apple cider vinegar mixed in water before meals. I just don’t remember the amounts. Also a bland diet might help.

i think you should consult a doctor as some diseases have similar symptoms as gerd like peptic ulcer ,chron’s disease, coronary artery disease, esophagitis.symptoms of gerd are heartburn esp. within 2 hours after eating,water-brash(excessive salivation)and a sour taste in the mouth if severe.
if it is gerd you are having then u need to change ur lifestyle like decreasing coffee and chocolate, spices, raise the head of ur bed at night.losing a couple of pounds if overweight.quit smoking and drinking.
