The mind-body-spirit debate has developed into a well known researched fact over the past decade. While there has always been some amount of contribution given to the mindset of any patient, only recently has the concept of caring for the “entire self” become a common practice in today’s modern medicine and prevention programs. Mind-body-spirit wellness has reached new levels of inclusive factors for today’s health conscious individuals. Holistic health has finally reached acceptance in many offices of doctors and practitioners of medicine.
The power of caring for one’s entire body is really quite impressively powerful. Individuals who have opted for total mind-body-spirit wellness have been able to determine great levels of health and energy within their own framework by allowing their entire being into account. Studies on the power of the mind have shown some shocking results, the effects have been proven to be of course, mind-blowing.
Holistic health is essential in providing high quality total care for your self, your family, and your overall well being. Studies have proven that holistic health practices have dramatically reduced the number and frequency of illnesses related to common every day exposure. School children living in mind-body-spirit wellness focused homes miss less than half of the school days due to illness than that of their classmates still living in traditional Western medicine focused homes.
Accounts of real world individuals being able to provide testimony to the effects of holistic health practices on their daily lives are continuously increasing. Many individuals offer that the mind-body-spirit wellness approach to life has given them not only their physical health back, but their emotional health as well. For those who place more emphasis on the testimony of physicians and health care practitioners, there are an increasing number of offices that practice mind-body-spirit wellness as part of their routine care.
Holistic health and the mind-body-spirit wellness approach to life has also opened up a while new industry for the entrepreneurial spirit. Many manufacturers feel that it has been nothing short of a blessing to fully endorse their product without doubting the word of their advertisers. There is a vast and endless ocean of new and improved products which adhere to holistic health practices and principles which have emerged onto the market as of late, and for the most part, these products actually do what they say they are going to do. Of course, we wouldn’t be an enterprising society if a few unscrupulous manufacturers didn’t sneak in there for their piece of this multi billion dollar industry. Our culture responded appropriately by deeming specific authorities on the topic to be the final word in quality and effectiveness.
By developing institutes that focus completely on mind-body-spirit wellness and awareness, there has been a successful and remarkable overhaul in the basic integrity of holistic health materials and products. While of course there are still some scam factories out there, the vast majority of holistic health companies want to be part of this ever growing, popular, and health enhancing trend that is changing the lives and souls of everyone involved.
Holistic health products that are able to make claims of providing “miracle” results are generally not considered to be authentic products endorsed or even recognized by any authority of holistic health practices. Rather, while there have been case reports regarding “miraculous results” on an individual basis, the mind-body-spirit wellness community does not promote grand promises but instruction, focus, and of course, directives that help individuals enhance their mind-body-spirit connection. Very few products on the holistic health market today receive genuine endorsements or “approval” from these authorities. Those that do have not only been proven to deliver what they promise, but also meet a strict standard of what constitutes and actual holistic health product.
As the mind-body-spirit wellness and awareness movement grows and matures over the next few years, there is bound to be growth in numerous areas of product development. What has reached the market now can be considered to be some remarkable enhancements in the holistic health practice. In fact, there have been a few products which not only earn the endorsement of leading authorities, but actually are not expected to be able to be produced better than they are right now. This is a pretty bold statement considering that technology and education will never be static yet those few products out there that are being praised and sung by the leading authorities have literally taken the holistic health product market by storm.
Our society will most likely continue the never ending search for powerful new health remedies and holistic health products which enhance the mind-body-spirit wellness experience with great enthusiasm and vigor over the next ten years. After all, what is considered a relatively new phenomenon in this country has been considered to be tradition in other societies for centuries. There is a wealth of knowledge waiting for us to uncover as time goes by.
The mind-body-spirit wellness movement and the holistic health practices that are now finally being viewed as medical advancements will continue to offer our society a new way of looking at health, not to mention a vast assortment of new health treatments. This can only be considered to be good news for those who suffer from chronic conditions, serious health problems and illnesses, or the healthy who wish to remain that way.

There are many words used today that are connected to the idea of wellness. Many of the terms are exchangeable between fitness, wellness, and health. Here we will explain some of the terms associated with wellness that you may or may not have seen.
Wellness is defined as the state of good physical and mental health, particularly when sustained by proper diet, exercise, and healthy living habits.
Fitness is the condition of our physical body and mental fitness refers to the condition of our mental state. We can maintain our physical fitness levels through various types of physical activity, and we can maintain our mental health through various types of mental relaxation techniques.
Exercise is a broad term that covers many areas. There are many types of exercise that people participate in, from aerobic classes and weight lifting, to stretching, walking, running, swimming, and jogging. All can vastly improve your physical health and increase longevity.
Meditation is recommended for anyone who has particularly high levels of stress and anxiety, but can benefit everybody. Meditation has been shown to lower blood pressure, relieve tension and stress, as well as bring balance to our inner selves through quiet refection and peace.
Nutrition refers to the vitamins, minerals and calories from food we need to maintain physical health, and is directly related to the amount of exercise a person gets.
Alternative therapy refers to alternative or holistic medicine like chiropractic care, acupuncture, or herbal remedies. Chiropractic care and acupuncture have become more come and accepted as supplements to the traditional Western medicine. Studies have supported claims that chiropractic medicine and acupuncture are effective forms of treatment. Herbal remedies are used by natural healers in order to treat minor ailments and maintain an optimal level of health in the body.
Wellness today is an idea that is used in combination with health and fitness, in order to achieve wellness of the mind, body, and spirit. Many feel that now more than ever before that wellness should include not taking care of physical person, but our mental and spiritual realms as well. Wellness must encompass the entire person.

Health has really always been a passion for me. For as long as I can remember I have been health conscious in many different ways. After high school I became a RN for that very reason. My biggest surprise after becoming a nurse was that I was not in the health field at all. It was the sick field. In all the different areas I have worked I have experienced sickness care rather than wellness care.
Everyone is concerned about you after they figure out you are sick. Health teaching is about early detection rather than prevention. The interesting thing is that health and wellness is everywhere in the public eye. You do not have to look far to find information on how to live healthier. Are you taking an active role in your health and well-being or are you hoping to detect something and try to treat it before it kills you?
Every health and wellness article I have read seems to carry the same theme: modest change can produce great health improvements. The truth is people just do not want to listen.
The other day a man was telling me about this pain he gets in his right side when he eats really high fat foods. He said it was really starting to bother him. When I asked if he had pain when he ate healthier foods with less fat he bluntly said, “No, then I have no pain at all”. He really thought he needed a doctor to fix this problem. To me this is a no brainer. Stop eating the bad food and eat healthier food. When I suggested this to him he said to me, “I’ve never been a guy who has had to watch what I eat and I do not really want to start now”.
This is a prime example of not taking a responsibility in your health. He knew what caused his pain. The culprit was a high fat unhealthy diet. But, he had no intentions of changing that. In his mind he needs a doctor to fix him.
Here are five very easy health habits you can form to improve your well-being. Keep in mind as you are doing this that it takes about thirty days to develop a habit. Stick with this for a month and you will be surprised at how much better you feel.
1- Drink at least eight glasses of water per day.
Your body needs water to hydrate cells and flush out toxins. Several daily ailments like low energy, head aches and constipation will improve greatly if you just increase your water intake. Remember I did not say your fluid intake. Coffee and pop have no nutritional value and will not hydrate you. Increase your water intake only.
2- Eat at least one fresh fruit and vegetable a day.
You are probably thinking that I have lost it because every other resource says you need 5-10 fruits and vegetables a day. The key to this point is fresh. You are going to get the most nutrients from fresh fruits and vegetables. Definitely eat the 5-10 per day but make sure you have at least one of each that is fresh.
3- Get Moving.
How many times have you heard this? If you can’t stop watching your favorite TV programs at night get up on the commercials and march. If you have children you can make it a game. It is best if you can get outside and get some fresh air and exercise as well. You will feel immediate effects from implementing this routine daily!
4- Get more sunlight.
Sunlight provides us with vitamin D. This vitamin is essential for strong bones and your immune system. The best part is it is free to soak up some sun. Get at least 15-60 minutes per day. A perfect time to do this is when you are exercising!
5- Get your sleep.
If you honestly commit to the first four points you will more likely enjoy sleeping at a higher level. Why, because you will sleep better! Cheating yourself of sleep can be preventing you from a full healthy life.
These are some very simple steps you can take to improve your wellness. Make a commitment to these activities for a full month and you will be amazed at the improvements in your life. Today the skinny era. Eat less, look slim and you’re admired and envied by one and all, but here what is being ignored is health. Everyone is talking about “being fit” and “staying fit” in completely wrong terms.
My neighbor Richa is on a crash diet for a week. She isn’t eating anything at all. I wonder how can she even survive!! Many others like her just give up eating in the name of “diet”. If we ponder over the “diet” regime, it was named a diet because it balanced your diet according to the nutrition value required by your body. Today, its meaning has just changed, rather, it won’t be wrong if I say that its meaning has completely changed. Now giving up everything in the name of “dieting” has become a trend.
Beyond that, this so called diet my give you a slim figure, and the social status of being “fit” but are you well? Wellness isn’t just the way you look, it’s a state of being! If you look slim and a 100 meter walk can tire you, then you aren’t fit, or are you?
Phrasing this era as just the skinny era isn’t enough. I would also like to go ahead and take the liberty of calling it the era of pretensions. Everyone is trying to be someone else, no-one is really acknowledging his/her own self for being what you are. I mean come on, everyone should be confident enough to say, what the heck if I’m fat, I’m at least healthier than the one’s who just pretend to be fit!
Stay fine, and make all the efforts to be well, not just pretentiously fit.

Wellness is generally taken to mean a healthy balance between your physical, mental, and emotional state. Fitness is commonly referring to your physical condition and is related to exercise and activity. One can be reasonably healthy, meaning disease free, but not in very good condition. One can be in good physical condition, perhaps sufficient to run a marathon or climb a mountain, but not be in good health. The runner Jim Fixx comes to mind. For the purposes of this article, let’s just let the line between wellness and fitness remain a little fuzzy so as not to define the terms too narrowly. My intent in writing this article was to provide a clearly written article on various aspects of wellness, to include from time to time some exercise or other activity that might contribute to wellness, and to create a platform for comments from readers who want to contribute their own experiences or studies or discoveries that might benefit us all.
I believe that when I feel “well” I do not feel fatigued or in pain or stressed out. If that’s somewhat close to what you mean when you say you are feeling well, then we are on the same page and I do hope you will contribute your input here. Feeling well is a difficult thing to attain and sustain. We all have certain stresses we face daily, from the jarring sound of the alarm clock to the jumble of traffic on the roads to the noise and light pollution that seems to permeate our space. In addition, we have multiple interactions with other folks who are dealing with their own stresses, and we can’t always be sure what their mental or emotional state might be. So, at least for myself, I don’t believe that wellness is a destination I will reach in this lifetime, at least not for a sustainable period of time. It is a journey, and a worthwhile one. And frankly, most of the time I am far happier with my life than I probably deserve to be. I have a thorn to deal with as far as my health is concerned, but I feel pretty well nevertheless. To achieve and sustain a state of wellness requires that we consciously learn how to keep our lives in balance, like a tightrope walker working without a net. Imbalance leads to trouble, maybe even disaster.
Now, the tightrope walker got up there voluntarily (I hope), but you and I are going to do this balancing act whether we want to or not. How well we do it depends first upon whether we see the need to keep in balance. Unfortunately, if we get out of balance without realizing it, we may not be able to resolve our problems without outside help.
This may sound overly simplistic to you, or to a mental health professional, but it works for me. I believe that, as Roger Miller said, “You can’t roller skate in a buffalo herd, but you can be happy if you’ve a mind to.” For the most part, barring some sort of chemical imbalances in our brain, we can be happy if we choose to be. In my experience, most of the time the people who were angry, depressed, disappointed, upset, enraged, all got that way the same way that the happy, pleasant, calm folks did. They decided to be. You see, when someone says or does something to you or in your presence, it may or may not be directed at you. Either way, it is their issue, not yours. Before you make it yours, you have the right, and the ability, and perhaps the obligation to yourself, to decide how you will react to it.
Here’s an illustration. My friend Jorg says to his wife Kati, “Oh, your mother is coming to visit again!” What Jorg actually says may not be exactly what Kati hears. He may mean that he is happy to hear that his mother-in-law is coming to visit because she is so pleasant to be around, and she bakes things for him to enjoy. Kati may hear that Jorg is upset that her mother is coming for a visit again so soon. She was just here a few months ago. Can’t she find someone else to bother? Jorg might be able to prevent misunderstanding but being very careful where he puts the emphasis or inflection, but Kati also plays a role in how this communication turns out, doesn’t she? She can think about how well Jorg and her mother get along and assume the best. Or she can blow up at him for complaining about her mother’s visit. And there are many other possible interpretations as well. These are real people and I think I know what Jorg meant, but the point is that EVERY interaction is full of possibilities. Fortunately, Kati tends to choose to be happy and pleasant, so Jorg is in good hands.
Many people tend to automatically blame how they feel on someone else, rather than accept their own responsibility. I told my children often that they cannot blame each other for how they feel. “I did it because she made me mad!!!” No, you got mad because you decided that was how you wanted to react, but it was YOUR choice. Next time, make a better choice. Now you are in trouble with me.
To me, teaching children how to make better choices would be a wise thing for a parent to work on. One way is for the parent to also be careful about how they choose to react. Teach by example. If you children see and hear you screaming at someone in traffic because they inconvenienced you in some way, that’s a teaching opportunity wasted. But make no mistake, the child did learn something, and they are likely to repeat the behavior.
