My regular doctor sent me to a specialist. I have insurance, but there is a deductible. The office staff said I had to pay up front or they won’t let me see the doctor. They won’t even tell me the price, but that 965 was the max they’d charge me. Health New England said it was between me and the doctor, but that they should be seeing me on co-pay only, billing insurance, then billing me the remainder.
If you have not established care with the specialist, and its not an emergency, then they can probably do this from a legal standpoint. I don’t know what the state law is in New England but it is problably similar.
