I have been waking up with bites on my body for the past three days. I even noticed that i was getting bit at work. Today, I found two bed bugs (or so I think they are) on my body. When I went to strip my bedsheets to check my mattress….I did not find any bed bugs on my sheet or mattress (I checked in all the crevices, on the floor and along the edges….still nothing.) Does this mean I am safe from them? What should I do now?

I don’t think this is a problem that will magically disappear.

First, are you sure that you’re dealing with bed bugs? Bed bugs are visible to the eye, nocturnal, and will hide from you.

Do you have red or brown spots on your mattress? That is a big indication of bed bugs.

Your next plan of action depends on how much money you’re willing to spend on this.

The best option is probably to combine all these:

1- get a new mattress. Bed bugs are really hard to get rid of. Most people spend hundreds of dollars trying to do such.
2- hire a professional to come out and exterminate them. Let a professional take care of this for you. He may need to bug bomb your house anyway.
    3- try a product like this: http://www.diatect.com/bed-bug-killer-ppc.php?gclid=CMyHrtycn5MCFQmRgwodbDPSoQ

    have a bath

  • dr:

Wash bedsheets in hot water vacuum mattress, air out pillows outside, then put in drier to fluff, wash hair and body, go see doctor.

Call an exterminater, Please! It’s the only way to know that you’ve gotten rid of them and yes they will hitch a ride with you to work etc… So if you you remember that kid in grade school that had lice – you do want that reputation.

They are a lot like roaches – they like to hide.

Bed bugs hide when it is light, so when you stripped the bed you couldn’t see them. An old tip was to put a damp bar of soap in the bed, sliding it between the sheets without raising them, and seeing if later on they are stuck to it. You may not have bed bugs, it could be animal fleas, if you do have then I am afraid you are going to have to get professional help. Hope you are wrong.

They’re called bed bugs, but that doesn’t mean they’re always in your bed.

Maybe they’re in your bathroom closet… You go on a trip or stay in a hotel or friend’s house… You pick up a few bed bugs in your toiletry bag, put it up in a shelf with your towels… You get the idea.

They might not be bed bugs at all, as someone else noted.

The important thing is to remember that these are insects you want to KILL. Bed bug infestation is a royal pain in the you-know-what. Either get some good info on handling the issue yourself or call in a pro exterminator.

Bed bugs are going nuts everywhere these days. They’re even in the NY subway system! Don’t wait until it gets crazy, please!
